The ANKOS 2012, Annual Conference and Exhibition
The 12nd Ankos Annual meeting was held in Elazig , Firat University on 26-28 April 2012.

Tuzla Digital Public Library
Tuzla Digital Public Library was opened to the public on March 30, 2012 with a grand opening ceremony. This public library is strictly a digital library. Library collection has Hiperkitap, the first and only Turkish e-book database in Turkey.

Hiperkitap: a Turkish e-book database

This presentation aims to provide an overview of the social history of digital publishing and the e-book market in Turkey, called local Turkish market conditions. After a brief overview of how the database was developed within local Turkish market conditions, in which relationships were established with various parties (including publishers, authors, the publishers' association of Turkey, computer companies, information designers and librarians), the paper explains aspects of its content. How to comply with Turkish and EU copyright laws is a much-debated issue in Turkey, but the database aims to provide a rich variety of content, using up-to-date technology. It already contains around 8500 books from 230 Turkish publishers, which makes this database attractive to both local and foreign users. The demand for mobile applications, in particular those for smart phones, are determining the current policy of Hiperkitap's development.
